Acceptable Use Policy

Westorably touches money, contracts and physical access to people's belongings. This policy sets the boundaries. It is part of the Terms of Service, and breaking it can get an account suspended.

Last updated 27 July 2026

The principle behind every rule below: Westorably automates what you decide. If a decision would be unlawful or abusive when you made it by hand, automating it does not make it acceptable.

1. Who this applies to

This policy applies to every Operator, every User on an Operator's account, anyone using our API, and anyone visiting our website. Operators are responsible for their Users' conduct.

2. Lawful operation

You must not use the Service to:

  • Break any law that applies to your facility, including self-storage lien and auction statutes, notice requirements, fee caps, consumer protection law, electronic signature law and data protection law.
  • Operate a facility you are not lawfully entitled to operate.
  • Store, conceal or facilitate the storage of goods you know or suspect to be stolen, illegal, hazardous or otherwise prohibited.
  • Launder money, evade sanctions, or process payments for a business you are not lawfully operating.
  • Misrepresent unit sizes, rates, availability, insurance requirements or fees on a booking page.

3. Treatment of tenants

  • Do not use automated access suspension, overlock or lien workflows to deny a tenant access to their property in a way that is unlawful in your jurisdiction, or before any legally required notice period has run.
  • Do not configure late fees, administrative charges or lien fees above what your local law permits.
  • Do not use tenant records to harass, threaten, intimidate or discriminate against anyone, including on the basis of race, colour, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age or familial status.
  • Do not upload identity documents you have no lawful basis to collect, and do not retain them longer than your law allows.
  • Do not enter special category data (health, biometric, religious, political or trade union information) into tenant notes. The product is not designed to protect it appropriately.

4. Email and SMS rules

  • Only message people who have a genuine rental relationship with you, or who have consented.
  • Never use Westorably for bulk marketing to a purchased or scraped list.
  • Honour unsubscribe and STOP requests immediately, and do not route around them by switching channel.
  • Comply with the messaging rules that apply where your tenants are, which may include CAN-SPAM, TCPA, CASL, the UK PECR or the EU ePrivacy Directive.
  • Do not spoof sender identity or disguise the origin of a message.

5. Content restrictions

Do not upload, store or transmit through the Service any content that is unlawful, defamatory, obscene, sexually exploitative of minors, promotes violence or terrorism, infringes someone's intellectual property, or contains malware. Do not upload payment card numbers into free-text fields. Stripe handles cards, and putting them anywhere else creates a compliance problem for both of us.

6. Security and system integrity

Do not:

  • Attempt to access another customer's account, data or infrastructure.
  • Probe, scan, penetration test or stress test the Service without our written permission. Request it at security@westorably.com; we grant it for good-faith research.
  • Reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the Service, or circumvent authentication, rate limits or usage restrictions.
  • Introduce malware, run denial-of-service traffic, or interfere with other customers' use of the Service.
  • Scrape the Service by automated means outside our documented API, or use headless browsers to simulate a user.

Good-faith vulnerability research that respects user privacy, avoids data destruction and does not degrade the service is welcome, and we will not pursue legal action over it.

7. Commercial restrictions

  • Do not resell, sublicense or white-label the Service as your own product.
  • Do not share one Location subscription across multiple physical facilities.
  • Do not share a single login across people who should have their own; the product supports multiple users at no extra cost.
  • Do not use the Service to build or benchmark a competing product.

8. Fair use of resources

Plans include unlimited units, tenants and users under normal operation. “Unlimited” means we do not meter you. It does not permit automated bulk generation of records, storage of media unrelated to your facility, or API traffic far beyond what running a storage business requires. If your usage becomes disproportionate we will contact you and work out a fair arrangement before taking any action.

9. Reporting and enforcement

Report a suspected violation to abuse@westorably.com, or a security issue to security@westorably.com. Include enough detail for us to investigate.

Where we find a violation, our response is proportionate: usually we contact you first and give you a chance to fix it. For serious or repeated violations, or where there is risk to other customers, to tenants or to the law, we may remove content, restrict a feature, suspend the account under section 20 of the Terms, or terminate the Agreement. Where we are legally required to, we will report to authorities.
